September 24th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting broke out on Monday morning between forces loyal to the first vice President Taban Deng Gai and those loyal to the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny at Mirmir town in Unity state,  sources have told the Nyamilepedia.

The fighting according to the SPLM-IO deputy spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel started at 12:30 PM local time saying it is still ongoing.

Other sources told the Nyamilepedia that forces loyal to the First Vice President under the command of Gen. Dor Manjur attacked Mirmir this afternoon.

The Mirmir fighting came hours after fighting break out in Central Equatoria’s Yei River state county or Kajo-keji with rebel forces saying they have been attacked by the rival government force.

“The regime’s forces launched another aggressive attack against the SPLA IO positions of Mir Mir and Kuok in Liech State. The fight started this afternoon the 24/09/2018 at about 12:30PM and still ongoing,” Lam said in a statement.

The new development is a blow to the ceasefire agreement signed in June by President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Both men signed a peace deal on September 12th to end the five-year old brutal conflict which broke out in the world’s youngest country in December 2013 following a flareup of violence at a national convention of the fractured ruling SPLM.
