February 27th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Former South Sudan minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management James Kok Ruea has joined the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar a week after defecting from Kiir’s SPLM.

James Kok who was also the Fangak State minister before he was dismissed said in during a press conference in Khartoum today that he was “happy to the entire leadership of the SPLM-IO for welcoming me and my colleagues.”

Kok who resigned from the ruling SPLM party last week said Kiir was responsible for the “ongoing carnage in the country” and said his time as president has ended and it was the right time for the people of South Sudan to “rise” up.

Kiir and Machar are now working to implement a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement signed in 2018.
