East African Community condemns kenyan police over arrest spree against South Sudanese

August 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The regional organization, the East African Community (EAC) have comdemned the Kenyan Police for arresting South Sudanese these week in a house-to-house arrests spree.

South Sudanese living in Kenya have been discriminately arrested by the Kenyan police which said was cracking on foreigners working illegally in the country accorsding to several residences in Nairobi and other Kenyan towns.

In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia, the East African Community slammed the Kenyan police for arrested South Sudanese citizens whom they said were also a part of the wider scale East African Citizens.

“We condemn the Kenyan government for the indiscriminate arrests of EAC citizens even after identifying themselves. reminded the Kenyan immigration officials of the provisions of Article 17 of common market protocol that guarantees free movement of persons and goods within the East African region,” partly read the statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

South Sudan was admitted to the East African Community in April 2016 after many years of attemps after it obtained its independence from the Sudan in July 2011 following a win vote for the separatists.
