December 15, 2021—-Dr. Jok Madut Jok, a Professor of Anthropology and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, is urging his fellow Dinka ethic group not to misconstrue the government of South Sudan for a Jieng Enterprise.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the diaspora based scholar advises Dinka Community to ignore tribal campaigns that are depicting “Kiir’s government” as a Dinka government.
“Any Muonyjang who thinks that Salva Kiir Mayar’s government is a ”Jieng government “ and Jieng people must defend it at all cost regardless of the misery it has caused Jieng and South Sudan in general is mistaken and should rethink their position in the interest of Jieng and in greater interest of South Sudan”, Jok said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
Prof. Jok said it’s a mistake to think the government of South Sudanese should be taken as government of one ethnic group.
In 2014 following the outbreak of South Sudan civil war, a group of lawyers and veteran politicians from Dinka structured themselves into what they called “Jieng Council of Elders” a tribal group they use to influence the government policies with an aim to defend Kiir’s government and Jieng interest in general.
But over the last three years, the JCE withdrawn their support from Kiir’s government and called for Salva Kiir and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar to step aside citing the resolution of National Dialogue as references to their call.
However, the opposition group led by the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny declined to take part from National Dialogue and termed it as one sided initiative that doesn’t reflect the will of all South Sudanese.
