July 21, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– In a strict military order sent to over 400 military generals of SPLA in Opposition, the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, ordered his commanders to cease communication with Hon. Taban Deng Gai, the former Chief Negotiator, for SPLM/SPLA-IO.
In the order, Dr. Machar declared that Taban Deng and a few other politicians in Juba have collaborated with his rivals to assassinate him during the recent attack at the State House in Juba.
According to James Gatdet Dak, the Press Secretary to the First Vice President, General Taban was behind the conspiracy engineered by President Salva Kiir in Juba to assassinate the First Vice President.
“First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/SPLA-IO), His Excellency, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, has DIRECTED all SPLA-IO commanders and units to cut off communication with Mining Minister, General Taban Deng Gai, and few individuals wth him who are behind a conspiracy engineered by President Sava Kiir’s faction to divide the SPLM/SPLA (IO).” James Gatdet said.
The First Vice President warns that Taban is being used to dismantle the Compromised Peace Agreement , however, his spokesman confirms that Machar is in control of the situation.
“is to dismantle the August 2015 peace agreement using them, Dr. Riek Machar has already sent out the message to all units in the country.” Dak said.
Taban was the first official of the opposition to appear on SSTV on Sunday in the middle of a very intense battle that went on for more than 12 hours. before the
Despite that his counterpart, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, was clearly representing President Salva Kiir’s faction, Gen. Taban represented the Transitional Government of National Unity and the SPLM/SPLA in opposition.
In the latest speech, broadcasted on SSTV, Taban went further to deny having access with his former Chairman and demand that SPLM/SPLA-IO does not belong to one person (Dr. Riek Machar).
In the speech that followed, Gen. Taban stood against Machar’s call for a deterrent force to act as a buffer and went on to claim that he had communicated with the SPLA-IO army in the field and they have all rejected foreign force intervention in the country.
In spite of SPLM/SPLA-IO hierarchy, Gen. Taban is now being portrayed as an ideal candidate for the position of the First Vice President ahead of his senior Lt. Gen. Alfred Lado Gore.
According to insiders, President Salva Kiir would not approve Lt. Gen. Gore anyway even if he was appointed by his party because he comes from Equatoria where the second Vice President, James Wani Igga, comes from.
Despite that General Taban has not yet announced his defection to SPLM/A-IG, officials of SPLM/A in Opposition believes that Taban has no support in the army and therefore his defection will not affect the opposition but would rather attract new defections from the government sides.
