August 17,2021—The forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) under the former Chief of Staff, 1st Lt. Gen Simon Gatwech Dual, has allegedly defeated Machar’s attacking forces again, according to military spokesman, Brig. Gen. William Gatjiath Deng.
In a statement extended to Nyamilepedia, the military spokesman of Magenis faction says the forces loyal to the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, have attacked their positions in Kazan and Kombo-Zinki.
“Today morning the defeated forces loyal to the former Chairman of SPLM/A(IO) Dr. Riek Machar Teny , have attacked our military units respectively at Kazan and Kombo-Zinki, the SPLA(IO) forces under the command of Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, acted in Self-defense and defeated the enemy forces, they are on the run right now as I am reporting” William Gatjiath said.
Yesterday, August 16, 2021, the splitter group under Gen. Gatwech Dual accused Machar’s group of launching offensives on their barracks at Tabaldi; however, their report was immediately denied by Machar mouthpiece as a “mere propaganda intended to confuse the public”.
The SPLM/A-IO under the First Vice President, Machar, has faced many splits since 2015 leading to infightings that last weeks and months.
