April 23rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Detained South Sudan army officer and former commander of the army’s fifth infantry division, General Buay Rolnyang, has been today set not guilty according to army spokesman Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang.

Buay was captured during fighting in May 2018 by militia commander Gen. Mathew Puljang in Mayom allegedly for trying to “rebel against the government.”

He was charged for offenses during operations, disobedience of lawful orders and violation of standing orders according articles 61, 67, and 69 of the country’s SPLA Act of 2009.

Buay this afternoon testified and denied that all the charges labelled against him were politically motivated by historical personal differences with colleagues in the army including the current army chief General Gabriel Jok Riak.

Army spokesman said a second and last hearing will take place on Thursday without given further details.
