Juba, South Sudan,
May 16, 2021 – The Governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony has fired Information Minister Paulino Lokudu Obede in a gubernatorial decree issued Sunday evening.
Lokudu was relieved of his duties indefinitely under the Gubernatorial Oder No. 19/2021 only three months after his appointment by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in February this year.
“In exercise of powers conferred upon me by the Republican Decree No. 51/2020 of the President of the Republic of South Sudan, read together with article 99(2)(L) of the Transitional Constitution of Central Equatoria State 2021 (as amended), I, Emmanuel Adil Anthony Wani, Governor of Central Equatoria State do hereby issue this Gubernatorial Order for the indefinite Suspension of the Minister of Information and Communication, Central Equatoria State with effect from Sunday 16th May 2021,” reads the decree.
Lokudu is a member of embattled Other Opposition Parties (OPP) under the leadership of Peter Mayen Majongdit.
No reasons have been given for his suspension. When called for further details, the Information and Communication Officer in the Central Equatoria Governor’s office, Derick Derickson, told Nymilepedia that Governor’s decisions are final.
“No one questions any decision taken by the Governor. He is the final man and decisions are final,” Derick said over the phone.
Lokudu’s suspension came less than three days after Governor Adil survived a road ambush that claimed four of his bodyguards. It remains unclear whether the sacking of Lokudu has any connection with the matter.
