March 25, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Body of the Sudanese Defense Minister Gen. Jamaal al-Din Omar who died this morning while attending the Sudanese peace talks in South Sudan has been flown home, senior military sources in both Juba and Khartoum have confirmed.

Officials said during dawn on Wednesday that Omar died of heart attack.

“Plane transporting remains of Sudanese Defense Minister ready for take off at Juba Airport,” South Sudan army spokesman Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said.

“I had an opportunity of meeting him last week when he paid a courtesy visit to his South Sudan counterpart,” he added.

Gen. Omar was in South Sudan’s capital Juba, taking part in peace talks between his country’s transitional government and rebel groups, the officials said.

He attended meetings that stretched into late Tuesday and died overnight. There was no further information.

Omar was a member of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, which took power last year under a 39-month power-sharing deal between the country’s military and the pro-democracy movement that led the uprising against former autocratic President Omar al-Bashir.
