President Kiir bids farewell to newly accredited ambassadors

Sep 16, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan President Salva Kiir bids farewell to the newly accredited South Sudan Ambassadors to South Africa, Japan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Consul to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The four ambassadors, who are all from President Kiir’s tribe, are Wilson Deng Wek to Republic of South Africa, Kureng Akuei to Japan, Mayen Majak to Democratic Republic of Congo and Kondok Aguek, the Consul to Dubai, UAE.

According to the office of the president, the purpose of the meeting was for the ambassadors to bid farewell to president Kiir.

“The purpose of the meeting was for the newly accredited South Sudan Ambassadors to the above-mentioned foreign missions to bid farewell to President Salva Kiir prior to their departure to their areas of assignments.” Reads part of a statement from the office of the president.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the South Sudan ambassador to South Africa, Wilson Deng Wek, said that they discussed with President Salva Kiir areas of mutual interest between South Sudan, Japan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Amb. Wek added that they pledged their commitment to President Salva Kiir to foster bilateral relations between South Sudan and their respective designated countries.

The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Nhial Deng Nhial, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Beatrice khamisa Wani, attended the meeting.

Because of civil war that has killed over 400, 000 people and left economic shrinking, South Sudan foreign missions are closed down in countries like DR Congo due to rent arrears and with the current economics situation in the country, it remains to be seen how president Kiir will reopen some of these embassies.

South Sudan is currently struggling to pay salaries of public servants including security and military forces.

Some have gone for more than 8 months without being paid their salaries; however, according to the Minister of Finance, Salvatore Garang, the war-raged nation hope for well wishers to bail them out.

South Sudan pound has been depreciating drastically for the past 5 months and the government admits that there is nothing it can do to revert it saying that the country has ran out of foreign reserves and the oil production is no longer sustainable.
