August 1, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior opposition official in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state has urged the youth in the area to join the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, under the leadership of First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Dut Majokdit, the advisor for political affairs for SPLM-IO governor in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, said his call for the youth to join Machar is in the interest of peace and development in the world’s youngest country.

“I appeal to our youth in [Northern Bahr el Ghazal state] Aweil to Join the SPLM/SPLA (IO) especially at this time of peace implementation because they now have the opportunity to inject new ideas into the struggle for reform and fundamental change in our country and together with the youth from other parts of the Nation,” Dut said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

“The SPLM-IO shall provide the best opportunity for the young people to participate in the political platform in the capital Juba and the states for them to determine – as youth – their destiny,” he added.

He dismissed claims that Machar has turned the movement into a family enterprise saying Machar worked hard to bring permanent peace to the country saying the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit would have rejected revitalizing the 2015 peace deal had Machar been absence.
