CORRECTED: Former S. Sudan military attaché to Uganda arrested over death of Kiir’s nephew
July 18, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A high-ranking South Sudan military officer who was earlier posted to South Sudan embassy in Kampala as a military attaché has been arrested in connection to the death of President Salva Kiir’s nephew, Lual Marine who was beaten to death by a mob in June.
On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police, General Majak Akech, wrote to the General Intelligence Bureau (GIB) chief Thomas Duoth Guet, asking him to handover Brigadier General Majier Abdalla Mabior, who is involved in the killing of Lual, for investigation.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, a senior government official at the ministry of interior said Abdalla was arrested Friday night at his residence in Gudele, and has been taken to the custody at a police station in Central Juba.
“General Abdalla was one of those who were involved in land dispute with Lual Akook. Because of this, he was arrested last night in his home in Gudele and he has been taken to Juba town and is now being held there,” the interior ministry source told Nyamilepedia.
Another source has also told Nyamilepedia that a wide-spread arrest was being carried on in Juba among the army and the national security service and that some officers of the organized forces who are wanted have fled into hiding.
