June 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan governors of Northern Liech and Twic states have met in the town of Mankien to discuss cross-border cattle theft which has led to several killings in recent weeks.

This came after reports two weeks ago that cattle raiders from Northern Liech state attacked villages in Twic state killing dozens of people and wounding many after they were forced to retaliate following an attack against their cattle camps a week early.

In a statement on Sunday, the Northern Liech state minister of information and government spokesman, Lam Tungwar Kueiguong, said a delegation from Twic state government led by governor Atem Madut Yak arrived in Northern Liech to attend what they named Mankien Peace and Security Review Meeting (MPSRM).

The Governors and their respective delegations where received by chairman of northern corridor bloc and Governor of northern Liech state Dr Manytuil Wejang for the Mankien peace and security review meeting which was convened on an urgent note as the insecurity was escalating between the two communities,” Lam said in a statement on his social media Facebook page.

He said the meeting was attended by senior army generals both in the two state and from the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Headquarters in Juba. Members from UNMISS also attended the meeting according to him.

“….the meeting was also attended by Gen Santino Deng wol, ground force commander SSPDF HQ, Maj. Gen Malak Ayuen and Maj Gen Mathew Puljang top special operation commander , 4th division and 3rd division acting commanders,” he said.

Among the resolutions of the meeting, Lam said the two state governments agreed to recover and return them to their rightful owners as well as compensation of the deceased.

He said the meeting has also resolved to combat and condemn hate speeches and incitement and to as well empower the organized forces inorder to combat the cross-border raids.

[The governors agreed to] recovering of all the stolen cattle from both states and to the compensations of all the deceased during those raids. Hate speeches and incitement must be condemned and stopped by both communities,” he said.

Joint organize forces both the police and SSPDF will be reconstituted and empowered to enforce the resolutions agreed upon by the states,” he added.
