May 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s protest organizer group, the Red Card Movement (RCM), said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday that it condemns remarks by President Salva Kiir Mayardiit in which the head of state threatened chaos against protesters.

Kiir on Tuesday, while speaking at the launch of South Sudan’s international gateway, said there would be deaths if protests happened against his government in the country.

Youth groups in South Sudan have been calling for nation-wide protests to try to force Mr. Kiir from his 14-year-old rule.

In the statement issued on Wednesday, the protest group said it was saddened and dismayed by Kiir’s remarks against them.

“The leadership of RCM is saddened and totally dismayed of the remarks made by president Salva Kiir Mayardit on 21th of May while attending an inauguration ceremony of international gateway for South Sudan in Juba on Tuesday,” partly said the statement.

“Going by that statement, president Salva Kiir has inadvertently admitted that the previous wars which have wreaked havoc in our beloved country were triggered by his violent reaction to the forces of democracy which posed a threat to the position that he has proven incapable of holding because of his certified incompetency,” the statement added.

The statement further decried what it said was a “degree allowed intimidation to become his guiding principles in leading the country.”

“As president Salva Kiir contemplates another round of unleashing terror on the innocent civilians who are only asking for their stolen freedom and democracy to be returned to them.”
