SPLM-IO’s Teny meets FVP Taban Deng Gai over cantonment of forces
December 23rd, 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Security and Defense Angelina Teny has met, today, the country’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai in his office in J1.
Teny, who is also the wife of prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, returned to Juba this week for the second time in less than two months.
She was in Juba in late October to attend the peace celebrations organized by the South Sudan government.
In statements to the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporations (SSBC) after the meeting, Teny said they explained to the FVP that the committee of security needs support over the establishment of cantonment areas for all the forces.
“We need support over the establishment of cantonment areas, we need support over the training and we also need financial support for the process to go ahead,” Teny told the SSBC this evening.
Under regional and international pressure, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed a peace deal in September in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the war.
The agreement in Addis Ababa followed months of intense negotiations among delegates of the government and opposition who must, by the time, sign a pact or face international or further regional isolation.
The government in late October conducted a peace celebration ceremony in the capital Juba and was attended by regional leaders as well as the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Machar.
