Rebel commander removes Ruai Kuol as NPAM Chairman, name himself interim leader
November 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A top rebel commander of the South Sudan’s National People’s Alliance Movement (NPAM) has removed the leader of the group, General Ruai Kuol Jal and has since declared himself the interim Chairman of the little-known movement.
General Ruai Kuol who was the SPLM-IO military governor of Unity State is currently in Juba, South Sudan’s capital after going there to attend peace celebrations organized by the government on October 30th.
However, despite the return of most political leaders to Khartoum, Ruai Kuol has since remained behind in Juba and most of his followers has since questioned questioned his motive to remain there.
The rebel group led by Ruai Kuol is not a signatory to the peace deal signed by South Sudan government with opposition groups such as the Machar-led SPLM-IO and the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Changson Lew among other groups.
In a statement issued last week and extended to the Nyamilepedia today, Gen. Paul Dor Lampuar is the new interim chairman of the group.
“After the defection of the Chairman [Ruai Kuol] and whoever with him, the movement has decided to removed them and appoint 1st Lt. Gen. Paul Dor Lampuar as the interim chairman of the National People’s Alliance Movement (NPAM),” the statement said.
The statement said the new leadership is tasked to support and make sure that the recently signed peace agreement is fully supported and implemented.
“The new leadership will support the revitalized peace deal signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on September 12the 2018,” the statement further added.
