Salva Kiir is a anti-peace element: General Paul Malong
July 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the South Sudan United Front/Army, Gen. Paul Malong Awan, who was the SPLA chief of staff until May 2017, has accused President Salva Kiir of being an anti-peace figure in the ongoing South Sudan conflict.
The accussation cames as President Salva Kiir’s government threatened to go for implementation of the pro-government Entebbe peace proposal alone even in absence of other South Sudan armed and non-armed opposition groups.
“In light of this [intransigence, violations of ceasefire agreement by Kiir], we are informing the public and the international community that President Salva Kiir Mayardiit is anti-peace [element] since he is not a genuine note interested to sign a lasting agreement,” said a statement signed by Malong’s spokesman Sunday de’John issued on Wednesday and seen by the Nyamilepedia.
Malong said in the statement that the would-be peace agreement will not live due to the fact that it is not inclusive as it does not include them.
“The isolation of South Sudan United Front is out of fear exhibited by flexible Juba regime. We have agenda to table but is being rejected. The recently signed or would be signed peace agreement shall not hold because it is not inclusive,” further said the statement.
The statement further pointed out that the Entebbe and Khartoum proposals alike do not reflect the aspirations of the people of South Sudan saying they are a package designed by the regime in Juba to sustain the status quo.
“However, the Khartoum and Kampala truce does not reflect on South Sudanese aspiration, it is a packaging of the status quo,” it said.
The group, however, reiterated its commitment to the liberation of South Sudan from what it said were injustices inflicted on the people of South Sudan by the regime of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit saying Kiir will never produce anything new for the rest of his life.
“We pledge to liberate South Sudan from all the injustices forced on them by President Salva Kiir Mayardiit. He has failed them and made their lives miserable. It goes without saying that even if President Salva Kiir Mayardiit was to be willingly allowed to remain in power for the next 100 years, he would create or add no value to the lives of South Sudanese people,” the statement further said.
