South Sudan: Government Forces Lost More Military Barges To Rebels In Jonglei State – Spokesman!
September 1st, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The Government troops, which have been attacking the armed Opposition’s military bases along the River Nile toward Malakal, have reportedly lost another major battle at the far North of Jonglei State this morning, and are now believed to be retreating towards Unity State.
According to the newly appointed Military Spokesman of SPLA [in Opposition], Colonel William Gatjiath Deng, a government marine convoy which has allegedly attacked many ports in Unity State in the last five days arrived in Jonglei State yesterday and began attacking Wathkech, Nyiew and Tonga Counties until 5Am this morning.
“Government convey which comprise of Barges and gunboats attacked our forces at Wathkech, Nyiew and Tonga County yesterday evening and the fierce battle ended at 5 AM this morning.” Col Gatjiath said.
According to Gatjiath, the rebels have blown off one barge with their Rocket Propel Grenades and Captured another barge in good condition.
“SPLA/IO forces who acted in self-defend fight back the enemy and hit one Barge With rocket which later burned and sank into the water of the Nile.” Gatjiath said.
“The other Barge was captured in good condition with all military hardware after the protection unit which guarded it surrendered themselves.” he continued.
The military Spokesman believes that their forces captured one tank, two Zuu 23 and six 12.7 machines guns as well as different motor shields.
“The other five Boats mounted with military hardware had sunk in the river Nile.” Gatjiath said.
“Currently one Barge and 2 Boats which escaped are now retreating to Unity State, but our forces remain calm in their bases as chairman and commander in chief for Sudan People Liberation Movement/Army Dr. Riek Machar assured our forces to respect the permanent Ceasefire signed on 17th/August/2015.” The Spokesman said.
Gatjiath further reiterates that the SPLA-IO forces will remain in maximum alert and fight back in self defense should the rival forces attack their position, adding that his side will safeguard peace at any cost.
“However, in the best interest of peace, we will be exemplars in safe guarding the agreement comes what may.” Gatjiath said.
The SPLM/SPLA calls on the region and the international community to pressurize Salva Kiir and his Commanders to stop violating the agreement and instead they must work hard to restore peace in the country.
In other reports, the SPLM/SPLA [IO] has learned that Salva Kiir regime has executed all the Prisoners of War across the country.
Reports emerging from insiders in Salva Kiiir security forces indicate that more than 600 prisoners have been killed in Juba and 85 others were killed in Bentiu, Unity State, between August 25th and August 31st, 2015, a report Nyamilepedia could not independently verified.
Salva Kiir’s government is yet to respond to these latest developments!
