February 1st 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Zimbabwe police clashed with South Sudanese students in Harare who attempted to take over the world’s youngest nation’s diplomatic building in the Zimbabwe capital Harare, sources said.
One student said in a brief statement to Nyamilepedia that embassy administration called Zimbabwe police into the embassy in Harare this morning to prevent them from shutting down business at the embassy.
The students attempted to lock the embassy offices and block staff from accessing the building, demanding payment of their tuition arrears. They say the South Sudan government owes their universities more than 1.4 million dollars in arrears accrued over seven semesters.
South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 and the conflict which has continued for six years has put on the world’s newest country severe economic challenges include debts which it has not been able to repay.
The government and opposition groups are struggling to implement a revitalized peace agreement they signed in September 2019.
As a deadline for a unity government approaches, opposition groups want a number of outstanding issues resolved before they could with the unity government formation.
