August 23, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Having exhausted all avenues in an attempt to restore peace in the war-torn South Sudan, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development(IGAD) held a private meeting with Dr. Riek Machar, the Chairman and Commander in Chief of South Sudan’s SPLM/SPLA [in opposition].

According to reliable sources, the regional mediators have agreed to create the position of a Prime Minister in the upcoming Transitional Government of National Unity(TGNU). However, the mediators, who are yet to present the proposal to other stakeholders see sharp objections from the government delegation.

The source confirmed to Nyamilepedia that the purpose of this parallel secret meeting was an attempt to convince Dr. Riek Machar to give up power and choose someone to represent his party in the Transitional Government. The mediators asked the SPLM chairman to propose a member of his party who should take up the position of Prime Minister.

According to the insider, the mediators briefed Machar that Salva Kiir government would remain as it is with Salva Kiir as the president, seconded by his current vice president, James Wani Igga.

According to the reliable source, Machar has objected the decision. The opposition believes that the regional leaders are attempting to reward dictatorship in the country in expense of massacres of innocent citizens at the order of their president.

According to the insider, Machar has urged the mediators to recognize his leadership. Machar told the mediators that his main rival, whom he ascent to power in 2010, must be the first to compromise for the sake of peace.

Machar said that Salva Kiir must step aside before he considers his decisions. The armed opposition leader, told the mediators that Salva Kiir has destroyed the country and does not deserve to lead the transitional government.

The opposition leader further said that he can compromise to work with Salva Kiir only if the new programs that include federalism, proper power sharing arrangements and reconstructions of the devastated states are to be implemented in the country.

The SPLM [in opposition] has presented it position on the transitional government, however, government delegation walked out of the recent peace talks claiming that the mediation must focus on hostilities matrix to end the conflict on the ground.

IGAD and partners have had difficulties imposing the ceasefire agreement for the last 8 months and therefore believe that the mediation must move on to discuss Transitional Government despite the ceasefire violations by the two warring parties.

South Sudan government delegation walked out of the roundtable dialogue last week urging the mediators to heed to their call, a proposal that highlights their grievances.

The talks will resume tomorrow in Addis Ababa, however, it is yet to be verified if the mediators have changed the agenda.

In other reports president Salva Kiir and president Uhuru Kenyatta held a consultative meeting with president Museveni in the neighboring Uganda on Friday. This came a few days after a high level delegation of the armed opposition, led by the powerful deputy chairman, Lt. Gen. Alfred Lado Gore, toured the country.  Lado believes that the opposition had a successful dialogue with the Ugandan government.

Gen. Lado maintains his position that Salva Kiir must face the International Criminal Court(ICC) for his direct involvement in Juba massacres, which triggered revenge attacks in the country.

The warring parties are expected to finalize the formation of Transitional Government within the next five days. This came after the international community raised bitter concerns and threatened to impose more sanctions on the warring parties for failing to meet the datelines while violating the CoH agreements.

Thank Dr,Machar for rejecting that idea from I GAD. we know what the IGAD do it for us. because the failure of leadership of Salva, many Country in Africa, they do their interest because they know salva kiir he could n,t produce some thing in south.

look, he brought some foreigner from different country in Africa to kill our children, while it was never seen in the World, while kiir did.

my comment, if Africa its like that, let them see us, instead of killing us without any thing to see.
