Mabior slams peace agreement, No “Breakthrough on counties”

Nov 10, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Chairperson of the National Committee for Information and Public Relations of the SPLM/A in Opposition, Capt Mabior Garang de Mabior, disputes claims that the parties made a tangible breakthrough on counties as recently reported.

Acording to Mabior “the so-called breakthrough on counties is just a publicity stunt” that is aimed to divert attention from the real issue which is the failure to implement the peace agreement.

“It is intended to divert attention from the failure to implement the security arrangements. There was no breakthrough. How is it a breakthrough when there are still contested counties like Maiwut, Makal and others? It is the opposite of a breakthrough!” Mabior questions.

Mabior argues that as long as there is no unified forces in the country, the counties cannot be viable.

“In the absence of a unified army and security in the County, how will these counties be viable?” Mabior said.

Responding to the minister of cabinet affairs and minister of information, who announced recently that elections will be conducted as scheduled after the transitional period, Mabior argues that the country will not be ready to hold elections.

“As we are busy celebrating this so-called breakthrough, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs has announced that elections will go on as scheduled at the end of the interim period. Is the Country ready?” Mabior questions.

“We have been bogged down in division of jobs until we are now running out of time. The Agreement has become exclusively about jobs and not the welfare and prosperity of our peoples.” He added.

He believes that although there is a peace agreement in Juba that the parties should be implementing, Mabior argues that it is not people driven but an agreement that is only aims for the elites.

“It would be unfair and not completely accurate to say that there is no Agreement in Juba. There is! It is; however, not a people driven peace process, it is between the power elite.” He said.” He said.

“The real peace must be characterized by a conducive, secure environment for our peoples to be able to access the means of production. If there is no security, there can be no production, without production there can be no trade and without trade there is no economy.” He continued.

“Peace must be understood within the context of economic development, not political positions.” He further added.
