August 18, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —- The SPLM Mission Office in the United States, would like to seize this opportunity to send this brief message of congratulations to the entire leadership of the SPLM/SPLA-IO under the leadership of our Chairman and C-in-C, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, and to all the men and women in the entire rank and file of the movement; including commissioned and none-commissioned officers of the people’s movement, for their gallantry sacrifices, and for showing a commitment to peace in our nascent country South Sudan.

A special congratulation goes to our Chairman, Dr. Riek Machar, for exhibiting leadership and unwavering commitment to peace by signing the IGAD-Plus Compromise Agreement on Peace in South Sudan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Monday, August 17, 2015. This partially signed peace agreement is a positive step toward realization of peace in the country so that the people of South Sudan can begin to enjoy tranquility and real dividends peace. It is also a testimony to our leadership’s statesmanship, and more importantly, a testimony to a leadership that puts its people first.

In this regard, the SPLM Mission Office in the United States, calls on President Salva Kiir to also show leadership to the entire people of South Sudan, the region of Africa, and the World at large; through committing himself to peace by signing, without much delay; this IGAD-Plus sponsored Compromise Agreement so that peace prevails in our country, and further reminds him that in war there are no victors, all are losers. A true leader thinks not of himself, but prioritizes the interests of his people. In this case, the people of South Sudan have the right to live in peace, and no right minded leader should stand against that.

Moreover, the SPLM Mission Office would like to extend a congratulatory message to IGAD-Plus on reaching this partially signed peace agreement between the warring parties in South Sudan, and further urges IGAD-Plus to complete its task by bringing pressure to bear on President Salva Kiir to sign the peace agreement, and to not leave any stone unturned in the quest for a lasting peace in South Sudan. The SPLM Mission Office Further calls on the people of South Sudan to remain seized of the situation in the country, and to continue to work for the realization of peace wherever they might be.

Ya. People are suffering in IDP camps. Peace is needed. Once this agreement is signed, there is no way that some one will dictate any one else. Everything will be decided democratically with the participation of the public. What the public want is known – democracy & rule of law.

We should know that the peace deal will serve only for the transition period during which all the needed reforms will be implemented. Once the reforms are implemented, federalism will be implemented & democracy & rule of law will come to south sudan.
