July 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A top United Nations Refugee official has discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement with South Sudan’s peace partners which would then enable the return home of refugees and internally displaced persons, IDPs to their homes.

The UNHCR Regional Refugees’ Coordinator, Mr Arnauld Akodjenou, who visited South Sudan for three days last week, met with a delegation from South Sudan’s National Pre-transitional Committee and discussed the speedy implementation of the September 2018 agreement.

During the meeting held in the capital, Juba, the UN refugee official who is as well a Special Advisor for South Sudan situation to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees calls upon the main signatories to accelerate the implementation of the revitalized Peace Agreement so that the affected populations could return to their homes and rebuild their lives.

Mr. Akodjenou also urged the parties to involve refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the dissemination of the peace agreement signed in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa in September last year.

South Sudan government and opposition groups, in September last year, signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace deal that collapsed in July 2016. The agreement resulted in the decline of violence across the country according to the UN and as such some families from UN protection of civilians sites(IDPs) are beginning to return home.
