Sudan foils attempted hicjacking of Sudan Airways flight – authorities

February 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudanese government said on Tuesday that it has foiled an attempted hijacking of a Sudan Airways plane traveling to the capital Khartoum from the Egyptian capital Cairo.

Essam Al-din Mohamed Tahir, the head of the Khartoum International Airport Company told the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that flight NO. 103 of the Tarco-Air company using a Sudan Airways plane was on air to the Sudanese capital Khartoum when the incident happened.

Tahir said on board were also some Sudanese nationals who were deported by the Egyptian government over issue of illegal stay in Egypt.

He said one of these deportees tried to enter the cabin with the intention to hijack the flight but the intention was thwarted by the crew.

“There was a number of passengers on board. Some of them were deportees who were staying in Egypt illegally and were arrested and deported by the Egyptian government. One of them (deportees) tried to enter the cabin to hijack the plane but the crew managed to control the situation,” Tahir said.

“The plane completed its flight and landed safely at Khartoum International Airport and the criminal was handed over to the concerned authorities who will carry out investigation why he attempted to do this,” he added, pointing out that he cannot “rule out if the criminal have link to any terrorist organization.”

The airport official praised the crew for dealing with the passenger.

Mr. Tahir further said that “the security situation at the Khartoum International Airport is stable and calm adding that the air traffic movement continues without any impact.”
