According to South Sudan Presidential Press Unit, the two officials just returned from Khartoum where they met the Sudanese leaders to discuss the matter.

“The presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak and the Minister of East African Affairs, Deng Alor Kuol, who also holds the File for Abyei, briefed President Salva Kiir on their recent official visit to Khartoum where they met with the Sudanese Government to follow up on the implementation of the Final Status of Abyei.” The Presidential press unit announced.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Tut Gatluak said that the government of South Sudan and Sudan agreed to form a joint committee from both sides to follow up the implementation of Final Status of Abyei.

Gatluak, who is the peace mediator for Sudan, travelled to Khartoum recently to invite the Sudanese leaders to come to Juba to sign their final peace agreement in Juba.

The world’s youngest nation, which has been battling its own civil war for the past seven, has been mediating a peace agreement between Sudan’s rival factions that include the government on one side and oppositions on the other side.

Although majority of the oppositions joined the peace talks in Juba, a few groups remained fighting the government in Darfur, Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan.
