August 14, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) is disarming members of the main armed opposition group, SPLA-IO, in the capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal state, Wau, sources have said.

The disarmament, one official said from Wau this afternoon, began last weekend and that SPLA-IO soldiers who wished to enter Wau were not allowed to carry their guns, or otherwise are forced to return.

“Some SPLA-IO soldiers have been disarmed and their guns have been taken by the SSPDF forces. This disarmament process is very bad now event anyone who is not supposed to be disarmed is being disarmed,” the official said.

SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Col. Lam Paul Gabriel refused to comment saying he “do not have any information to confirm that.”
