July 30th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s information minister Michael Makuei Lueth said on Monday that some members of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) are likely to initialize the agreement before the 5th August which will witness the final signing of the agreement.

Last week, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance with the exception of the group led by Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka decided to initialize the agreement which was also signed by the government and the Machar-led SPLM-IO.

The group complained that most of their demands including the question of the states during the transitional period were ignored by the mediation and as such the group decided to scrap the initialization of the agreement and demanded that these issues be addressed first.

In a interview with the Eye Radio this afternoon, the South Sudan information minister and the government spokesman who is also a member of the government delegation to peace Michael Makuei Lueth said they will implement the agreement and will continue in the meantime to urge the opposition alliance to join the implementation of the agreement.

“We can not force them against their will. But the fact they have not sign will not stop us from implementing the agreement, we will continue to implement the agreement, and we will continue to appeal to them to sign it, so that they become a party to the process,” Makuei said.

He said there is likelihood that some of the alliance will initialize and sign he agreement saying the government and the SPLM-IO are still waiting for them.

“There is a likelihood of some of them signing, We hope that they will sign. So we are still waiting for them to sign that document,” he further said.
