Dec 10, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Addressing IGAD heads of states and governments in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Sudanese president, Omar Hassan el Bashir, calls on his counterparts in the region to involve South Sudanese stakeholders and signatories to the Peace Agreement in search of peace and reconciliation in the war-torn young nation.

Bashir’s remarks, which requires that the peace guarantors must include Machar’s led SPLM/SPLA(IO) mainstream in reviving the peace process, came contrary to those of Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda which lean towards supporting one warring faction led by President Salva Kiir and isolate Machar’s.

The Sudanese president reminds his counterparts that South Sudan and Sudan were and are still one country, and therefore his country has more responsibility to play in bringing peace to South Sudan.

“We were one nation and brothers and we have a responsibility. Sudan harbours his South Sudanese brothers who enjoy all the rights of the Sudanese nationals.” Said President Bashir.

Right, unlike the rest of the region, Sudan is the only country were South Sudanese nationals can be employed and allow to live without much police harassment like in Kenya and Uganda.

He reiterates that all South Sudanese stakeholders have to be involved in peace implementation or otherwise the peace process will be incomplete.

“The peace in South Sudan implies to involve everyone in the (implementation of) the agreement that they signed. There will be a partial peace” he stressed.

In other reports, Sudanese authorities have declined Juba’s request to shutdown the SPLM/SPLA(IO) offices in Khartoum, Sudan.

SPLM/A (IO) Welcome Bashir Remarks

Responding to Bashir’s remarks, the officials of the armed opposition have welcomed Sudan’s neutrality and calls on the rest of the countries in the region to do the same.

“SPLM/SPLA (IO) Welcomes and  commends call from Sudanese president Omer al- Bahair  for all South Sudan parties in peace implementation to be involved.” Said Dickson Gatluak Nyuot, one of the deputy spokesmen of SPLM/SPLA(IO).

“We are delighted and honored  him for being  straightforward and we call  the other heads of states in  IGAD countries  to  exercise the same Spirit to involve all the signatories of the Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS) in the implementation process of the peace deal.” Gatluak continued.

The officials remind the regional leaders that without Dr. Riek Machar and SPLM/SPLA(IO), which controls wide areas in the country, South Sudan peace process will only remain a dream.

“We want to call other  various countries to  realize that without the SPLM/A -IO under the chairmanship of Dr,Machar, who is one  the signatories, the implementation process of the peace deal will not work.” Dickson Gatluak said.

The Opposition agrees with Bashir that Sudan knows South Sudan better that all those other countries that are now taking sides in the conflict.

“There is need for the signatories to be recognized for the implementation to work out. Sudan which knows South Sudan better than any other counties in Africa has a big roll to play in order  to  to end  the civil war in South Sudan since Juba and Taban’s affiliated group will not bring the lasting peace in the country.” Gatluak added.

SPLM/SPLA(IO) reiterates that since Taban surrendered himself to Kiir’s regime, they become one party and there is no way one party can negotiate a peace with itself.

While Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia seem to be siding with Kiir’s SPLM/SPLA faction, Sudan, Tanzania, Djibouti, Burundi, Rwanda and Somalia remains undecided. Other countries like South Africa, Chad, Aljeria and Nigeria, which represent AU in South Sudan peace process, remain neutral.
