September 13,2021—The SPLA-IO splitter group loyal to the former Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, has accused Dr. Machar’s forces of launching offensives on their strongholds in northern Upper Nile.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the SPLA-IO spokesman of the Kitgwang faction based in Magenis, Brig. Gen. William Gatjiath Deng, claims that Machar’s forces attacked their military barracks in Khorjala and Amut outskirts which he believes are 20 KM and 30 KM away from their headquarter, Magenis.
“The Office of the Spokesperson for Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition SPLA (IO) would like to inform the public that, today this morning at around 6:00AM, East African Time, the merciless militias under command of the former rebel Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, came and launched attacks on the SPLA (IO) bases at Khorjalla 20k from Magenis GHQs, and the other one at Amut outskirt based 30k from Magenis”,spokesman Deng said in a statement.
The senior opposition spokesman said their forces acted in self-defenses and repulsed back the forces loyal to Machar, stressing that their forces will continue chasing them until they reach government’s trenches.
“Moreover, the brave forces of the SPLA (IO) all under command of the interim Chairman and Commander in Chief, (C-in-C) General Simon Gatwech Dual, responded in self defence to the merciless militias more excessively and they have now been repulsed and running in disarray hopelessly, just nowhere about”,
“Therefore, the mighty forces shall pursue them until their entering into the government’s trenches at either Kuek or Wedekona”,he added.
Since Kitgwang Declaration on August 4, 2021 the leadership of the SPLA-IO faction under the command of Gen. Gatwech Dual has been accusing Machar’s forces of being first to attack their barracks, allegations which were never accepted by Machar’s faction.
