Dec 10, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —- In a letter addressed to Hon. Angelina Teny, Dear your Honorable Madam Angelina Teny, by the South African’s SPLM Chapter, Johannesburg is convinced that the Chairman of SPLM/SPLA[IO] and Vice President Designate, Dr. Riek Machar, has made the best choice in response to popular demand for the people of South Sudan and supporters of the armed opposition in particular.

“I write to offer my warmest congratulations on your assumption of position as Chairperson of National Committee for Security and Defence in the Movement.” reads part of the statement.

The representative to Johannesburg, Amb. Isaac Khamis Paul Idris, believes that the appointment of Hon. Angelina Teny was based on her wide-range of experience, merits and her qualities of leadership.

Ambassador Khamis wholeheartedly acknowledges the enormous contribution from Angelina Teny, who is the only female politician that has served in uniform and also on diplomatic missions of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition in the past two years.

Khamis is convinced that such appointment will strengthen the movement and gender parity in the country.

“Considering the great importance of great inputs not only to the Movement, but to South Sudan, I am convinced that during your mandate, these will continue to deepen further.”Khamis said.

“The Movement’s collective approaches will be pivotal to defining our shared future, values and objectives.” he adds.

The loyal servant of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition pledges his royalties and that of the SPLM/SPLA chapters in South Africa to the movement and the people of war-torn South Sudan.

“I would like once again to assure you of my personal commitment and the full support of the Movement’s royalists working together for stability, peace and future development of our nation.” Amb. Isaac Khamis said.

Unlike Amb. Khamis, many supporters of the movement have responded with mixed feelings. While some, who view the appointment from traditional perspectives accused Dr. Machar of nepotism, others believe it was the right call at the right time.

While timing is one of the major factors that pops up in many critiques on social media, gender, conflict of interests, nepotism and qualifications are other major blocks.

While SPLM/SPLA [IO] defends the appointment, Angelina Teny is one of the most prominent women politicians in South Sudan.

With good academic background from Great Britain, Hon. Angelina Teny is fluent in both English and Arabic. She served as the Minister of Energy and Mining in the Khartoum-based Government of National Unity between 2005 and 2010.

But being a woman and a wife of a prominent politician, in a country where gender disparity is astronomically high, Angelina Teny like many other women, is disadvantaged when it comes to serving at a male-dominant national positions.

She ran for election as governor of Unity State in the April 2010 as an independent candidate. Although she lost the election to the then Governor of Unity State, Gen. Taban Deng Gai, backed by the ruling party, she led in the preliminary stages and gathered popular support across the oil-rich Unity state.

Her appointment to chair the National Committee for Security and Defense is considered a popular demand in SPLM/SPLA [IO] hierarchy and among the supporters that Dr. Machar could no longer resist.

Madam Angelina Teny is the most knowledgeable and qualify individual for that position period. Being the spouse of the SPLA-IO chairman can’t and shouldn’t prevent her from utilizing her personal-patriotic service to the South Sudan nation period

Educated individuals always confront complex issues with logic. If she can do the job with merit, I recommend her to embrace the task and serve our country, moreover we urgently need educated women to take pole positions in South Sudan’s politics. Enough with gender disparities and marginalisations.

Education is key element here. We’ve first hand experienced the whole debacle of illiteracy combined with tribalism from the present Dinka leadership in Juba. This is shameful and very regrettable. Some people get educated but still remain stucked to their primitive instincts. This is happening with the Dinka JCE led government.

Our lands and all of the resources belong to us, we must discard tribalism and put diligence and competence ahead of everything, inorder for us to enjoy the wealth of this country. Everybody should remain within his own territory, think about development, compete and contribute to the general wellbeing of the country.

Absolutely crucial, the country is in dire need of profound reforms. This must happen soon. Those who are competent to deliver services to the people are more than welcomed. We need fundamental changes on the grounds.

So madam Teny, show the captious critics that you are qualified for the job and smother their complaints.

Read my comments again! I don’t know how you come to the conclusion that I’m supporting tribalism? Let me repeat,…I was referring to her as an academic female South Sudanese in opposition, who can be judged by her performance in the office.

You are walking a very thin line here with assumptions that are risky and not well thought. The nepotism and the corrupt Jieng dynasty happening today in Juba will NEVER happen again. You would be shallow minded yourself if you think Mr. Machar is so stupid to begin doing exactly that, what we are fighting against.

Read it again!!!
