March 4, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — President Kiir has called for the suspension of South Supreme Airline Operations in South Sudan following Tuesday’s fatal plane crash that left all 12 people who were on board dead.
In a statement this evening, the president directed the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority to halt the operations of the organization that owned the plane.
“As a temporary measure to deal with these avoidable air accidents before laws governing civil aviation are strengthened via legislative means, I am hereby directing Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority to suspend South Supreme Airline Operations in South Sudan,” Kiir said in a statement this evening.
According to President Kiir’s office, the suspension is justified for airlines to ascertain airworthiness of their airlines and to avoid numerous accidents.
“This measure is necessary for these institutions to ascertain airworthiness of the remaining South Supreme planes. It is also a necessary step to restoring public confidence in air travel in the country,” he added in the message.
Kiir also conveyed his deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who perished in South Supreme Airline’s tragic crash in Uror County, Jonglei State.
