February 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan Minister wrote to President Salva Kiir Mayardiit seeking his intervention over what she said was an unacceptable activities being undertaken by the country’s Petroleum Minister without the prior knowledge of her ministry.

The minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Sophia Pal Gai, said in a letter titled, “Complaint About Activities of the Minister of Petroleum” to the president that Minister of Petroleum Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth has been constructing water facilities in some Juba neighborhoods as well as in Northern Liech and Ruweng without the prior coordination with the Water Ministry.

“I would like to draw your attention to the recent unacceptable activities of Hon. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Minister of Petroleum, in which he has been supplying water facilities in various areas of Juba Town (e.g. Mangateen, Gudele and Lemon Gaba) and also in Norther Liech and Ruweng without coordination with this Ministry,” Pal said in a letter she addressed to President Kiir dated February 18th 2019.

“We have been informed that Hon. Gatkuoth requests the oil company operating in Paloich to provide funds to an NGO called Nile Hope which undertakes construction of the water facilities, in which he later claims as his donations to the communities,” she added.

She further stressed that such activities are undermining her leadership of the ministry saying it portray her as not capable of providing services to the people as per her constitutional mandates.

“The results is that this has portrayed my Ministry in bad shade with the general public thinking that we are not able to provide water supply services to the people despite the fact that it is our constitutional mandate. To make the mater worse, Hon. Gatkuoth is spreading this in the social media,” she stressed.

She further urged President Salva Kiir to immediately intervene so as to restore order between government institutions so as to avoid competitions between their leadership.

“As our government is supposed to operate in harmony and not competition, we seek your kind intervention to restore order and ensure that government institutions are required to strictly follow their constitutional mandates and endeavor to coordinate where activities overlap,” she stressed.
