February 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) urged the government of South Sudan on Monday to own the implementation of the peace agreement.

President Salva Kiir’s government and opposition groups signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in September last year to end the ongoing five-year old conflict.

The parties to the agreement, beside the government, includes the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by former Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, the opposition umbrella, South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Gabriel Changson Chang, SPLM-Former Detainees or FDs and Other Political Parties (OPP) led by Mayen.

“I would like to underline that the more implementation of the peace agreement is owned by the people and government of South Sudan, the greater the chances of its success,” the Kenyan diplomat was quoted by the Eye Radio as saying on Monday.

“The presentation by the NPTC and the Joint Defense Board will provide a detailed information on how they are going to execute their mandate as stipulated in the agreement,” he added.
