March 4th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement have reached a partial agreement on division of the ministries, a senior opposition official said.

The 2018 revitalized peace deal established 35 ministries which it said would be divided among the parties to the peace agreement.

The parties have been trying for more than a week to divide the ministries but disagreement over who take what ministry have hampered the timely formation of the revitalized unity government.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, an opposition official said the agreement was reached on Tuesday night and that the government has agreed that the ministry of defense goes to the SPLM-IO while it takes finance, and interior.

He said other key ministries such as petroleum were still to be allocated to any of the parties.

“An agreement which I can call partial has been reached. The government last night agreed to give the SPLM-IO the defense ministry and the SPLM-IO agreed to give the government the ministry of finance and interior,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

“So, discussion are still underway on other ministries and I hopeful that an agreement will be reached this afternoon or later in the evening,” he added.
