Presidential Advisor on security Tutkew and Gen. Akol Khor accused of funding tribal militia in Mayom, Unity State

May 03, 2021 — A confidential report extended to the Director General of Directorate of International and Public Relations of the ministry of Defense unpacked evidence that the Presidential Advisor on National Security, Hon. Tutkew Gatluak Manime is training a private militia under his brother who is now the commissioner of Mayom county of Unity State.

The confidential report that was addressed to Major General Kuol Deng Abot, the Director General, alleged that Hon. Tutkew Gatluak was spotted in Khartoum, Sudan, loading weapons and ammunition into two Mitsubishi trucks and sending them to  Mayom county to arm a tribal militia with intent to conduct raids in Warrap State.

“The Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs’ of the Republic of South Sudan Hon. Tut Gatluak has been spotted in Khartoum loading two Mitsubishi Trucks with Military hardware destined to Mayom County Unity state to help the forces of Lieutenant General Bapiny Monytuil with an aim to arm local civilians to carry of raid in Warrap State,” the confidential report reads.

“The arms are said to be under the escort of Colonel Alfred Louis Kiek,” the report continued.

The confidential report alleged that Hon. Tutkew sought approval from South Sudan Director-General of Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service (NSS), Lt. Gen Akol Koor Kuc, to fund and train the militia.

The report which was authored on April 9, 2021 indicates that Colonel Alfred Louis Kiek is a member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) under Lieutenant General Panyiny Monytuil Wijang, the former deputy Chief of Staff who is now commanding parallel rebel groups in Mayom, County.

The report further indicated that the trucks loaded over 1000 AKM rifles, one-hundred and fifty (150) boxes of AKM armors, forty (40) PKMs heavy machine guns and Six (06) boxes of ammunition.
