President Kiir returns home from Addis Ababa

September 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, has returned to the capital Juba from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where he signed a peace agreement with opposition groups.

Kiir on Wednesday and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed the long-awaited revitalized agreement on the on the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS).

Other opposition groups including the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) also signed the agreement although some members like the NAS led by Thomas Cirilo and PDM led by Dr. Hakim Dario abstained.

The deal will see a transitional government that will be led by Kiir and Machar as President and First Vice-Prwsident respectively along with other vice president and will be formed in eight months from yesterday.

The South Sudan President said in a statement that President Kiir returned to the capital Juba along the accompanying delegation from The Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit and accompanying delegation arrived back to Juba this afternoon after signing peace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,” the Presidency said in statement.
