President Kiir mourns former Ambassador to Russia, Telar Ring

Dec 28, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — President Salva Kiir is mourning the death of Amb. Telar Ring Deng who succumbed to COVID-19 related complications in a hospital in Juba on Sunday evening.

The president shared his message of condolence through a press statement saying that he is saddened by the former ambassador’s untimely death.

“I am deeply saddened to hear that Amb. Telar Ring Deng has succumbed to COVID-19 related illness last evening,” read the statement.

On behalf of the government and people of South Sudan, president Kiir sends condolences to family, relatives and friends of Amb. Telar.

“on behalf of my family, the Government and the people of South Sudan, I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and all South Sudanese that are affected by his untimely departure,” the statement continues.

President Kiir said that Amb. Telar will be remembered as a liberator who contributed in shaping the political discourse of South Sudan.

“Amb. Telar was a leader and he will be remembered by the people of South Sudan as a liberator and a politician who contributed to the shaping of the political discourse in our country. As we mourn him, let us all stand in solidarity with his family, his colleagues and the Greater Yirol community,” the president said.

President Kiir prays to God for comfort and healing during this time of mourning.

“I pray that God our refuge in all difficulties will give us the comfort we need in this time of mourning to cope with Amb. Telar‘s passing,” the president continued.

Amb. Telar served as the head of South Sudan’s mission to Russia from October 2014 until January 2018 when he resigned from his post to work toward peace in South Sudan as a private citizen.

Telar soon after announced his defection to South Sudan United Movement under Gen. Malong Awan and later joined the SPLM/A-IO under the current First Vice President, Riek Machar.
