May 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Today, May 16 2019, no sign that there are anti-government protests in the South Sudan’s capital Juba to call for resignation of President Salva Kiir according to several residents who spoke to the Nyamilepedia today from Juba and Wau.

Youths on the social media have been calling for a nation-wide protest on May 16 to try to force President Salva Kiir from power.

One Juba resident who identified himself as Clement told the Nyamilepedia this morning that Juba was calm and there were no signs that there are or would be protests today saying he saw several youth carrying on their duties as usual.

Clement said there is only a huge security presence across Juba saying a gun search process is in progress in several neighborhoods in the capital involving members of the national security service and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).

“There are no demonstrations in Juba and there is no sign that there would be ones in the near future of today or tomorrow from the said youths who are now busy caring out their daily activities in the town,” Clement said.

“Only, what I can confirm is the huge presence of armed forces in many parts of Juba. The SPLA and the National Security Service are caring out the search for guns in Juba,” the Clement added.

Another source told the Nyamilepedia from Wau that there “is no protest taking place there saying most of call for demonstration is only based in Juba.”

Protest at South Sudan embassy in Sudan

Several sources told the Nyamilepedia that protests are ongoing at the South Sudan embassy in the Sudanese capital in Khartoum. The Nyamilepedia has also confirmed that similar demonstrations are ongoing in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at the South Sudan embassy there.

A Nyamilepedia witness said from Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya that refugees are also calling for the departure of President Salva Kiir from power so that they can return home.
