July 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The newly appointed deputy minister of finance, Goch Makuach, who last week replace Athian Diing Athian has been sworn-in into office at the State House J1.

The swearing-in ceremony was administered by Justice Ayak Diir Khom at the State house on Tuesday and was attended by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Salvatore Garang Mabior, Second Undersecretary Wani Buyu.

The acting SPLM Secretary General Jemma Nunu Kumba and the chairperson of the committee for Finance and Economic Planning in the National Legislative Assembly David Nailo also attended the event.

President Kiir last week decided to dismissed the country’s deputy finance minister, Athian Diing Athian, almost eight months after the later was appointed into the office in a cabinet reshuffle Kiir thought would revive the economy.

He replaced him with him with Goch Makuach who was the Chairperson of the South Sudan Parliament’s Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs in a degree read on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).

South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 following a violent standoff within the presidential guards with those loyal to President Kiir trying to disarm those they believed supported former vice-president Dr. Riek Machar.

The standoff then transformed into a civil war spreading rapidly to the rest of the country ushering in a new era of economic situation in which the South Sudanese pounds have lost value against the United States Dollar and the currencies of the neighboring countries.
