October 3rd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Information Minister, Michael Makuei Lueth has blamed the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) for the delayment in the formation of the Independence Border Commission (IBC).

According to the peace agreement signed last month in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, the border commission, which is tasked to access tribal boundaries and determine the number of states, was supposed to be formed only two week after the signing of the agreement.

Makuei said they expected the IGAD to submit the list of the boundaries committee to President Salva Kiir Mayardiit but said already the two weeks have passed and the regional body haven’t sent the names.

“There were supposed to establish the independent boundaries commission-IBC, this IBC is an independent commission within 14 days, the 14 days have gone and its the IGAD which is supposed to send the list to the president,” Makuei told reporters on Monday in Juba.

He revealed that all the parties have sent their recommendations to the regional body but the IGAD have not sent them to the President who is expected to issued the order for the constitution of the committees.

“The parties sent their recommendations and then they are compiled by IGAD and they send them to his Excellency the president for issuing of the order, IGAD up to this moment didn’t send the list,” he said.
