The delegation comprised of Hon. Anne Chapelier, a member of French Parliament who doubles as the Chairwoman of the France-South Sudan Friendship group of the French National Assembly and Amb. Jean Michael Dumond, the Special Envoy of the French Republic to South Sudan.

According to a press statement, released by the Presidential Press Unit, the meeting was also attended by Hon. James Deng Wal, the Executive Director at the office of the President.

Mr. Wal said the president briefed the French delegation on how far South Sudan has gone in term of peace implementation process and also asked  the French government to support South Sudan in her quest to achieve a lasting peace in the country.

“ The president briefed the delegation about the status of the peace implementation process and urges French government to stand in solidarity with the people of South Sudan. Noting that security arrangements, mainly the graduation of the unified forces have been hindered by recent arms embargo” the Executive Director in the office of the president, Hon. Deng said.

“The discussion also centred on the loans given by IMF to restructure financial sector, improve economy and expand investments” he added.

The French diplomat, Amb. Marc Trouyet further reiterated that the two loans offered by the International Monitoring Fund to South Sudan are considered as the beginning of building confidence between South Sudan and the international community regarding the management of public money and the financial reform process.

Since the outbreak of war in 2013, South Sudan has witnessed numerous economic crises, leaving many innocent civilians struggling to put food on the table. So far, according to UNICEF reports over 8.3 millions people will depend on humanitarian assistance to survive.
