July 17, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Kenyan President, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, calls on the region and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan to take “primary responsibility” to protect and defense South Sudan infrastructure and lives of citizens from a divided national army, who resumed violence and killing of their own people earlier last week.

Speaking to UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, who calls on him, Mr. Kenyatta made it clear that the region must take responsibility to restore peace in South Sudan and do so durably

“We have all watched events in South Sudan with sorrow. Our youngest brother has fallen, yet again, into division and violence. It is our responsibility – all of us, but especially those in the region – to restore peace, and to restore it durably.” Kenyatta said.

“Let me be clear: those of us in the region have primary responsibility for peace and security here. But that responsibility is also collective – all of us must think carefully, and work hard, in the cause of peace. ” he continued.

Mr. Kenyatta seconded the call to empower UN Peacekeepers under UNMISS mandate to separate warring parties and to fight in self-defense and defense of internally displaced people in the country.

During the 5 days of fighting in Juba at least 2 UN Peacekeepers were killed in attack on Protection Site by soldiers loyal to president Salva Kiir.

The indiscipline SPLA-Kiir killed scores of civilians, mosty from Machar’s Nuer tribes, both on the streets and also in hotels.

More than 25 civilians, according to UNMISS reports, were wounded or killed in UN camps in Juba.

Although president Salva Kiir and his chief of army, Paul Malong, denied knowledge of what instigated the recent dog fight in Juba, the two principles were unable to break the fight.

Unlike the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, who proposed that UNMISS mandates should be given more powers to act as a buffer zone between the two rival forces, president Salva Kiir and his faction declared to fight any foreign intervention in the country.

“I will not allow even a sigle foreign soldier” Kiir said.

During the IGAD submit of heads of states and governments, IGAD has endorsed deployment of international protection forces to guarantee safety and security in Juba.

IGAD calls on the UN Security council to extend mandates of UNMISS to a combat mission that will be able to intervene in case of more violence in the country.

“Calls upon the UN Security Council to extend the mission of UNMISS with a revised mandate to inter alia serve as a protection force to separate the warring parties, protect major installations and the civilian population, as well as pacification of Juba;” IGAD Head of states communique.
