January 25th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The international community has been urged by a South Sudan holdout opposition group to reject funding the ongoing South Sudan peace process until the agreement – also known as R-ARCSS – is reopened for renegotiation.

The holdout opposition People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Dr. Hakim Dario said some opposition groups in the country have been sidelined by the two main warring parties,  the government and the SPLM-IO and that root causes of the ongoing civil war were not addressed.

In a statement issued on Friday and extended to the Nyamilepedia, the group urged donors to reject any call that seek funds for South Sudan’s peace deal.

“PDM appeals to the donors and the international community to resist the call by the kleptocratic and ethnically-based government in Juba for financial support for the flawed R-ARCSS implementation,” the statement signed by Dario himself partly read.

The statement said the funds,  if given to the government in Juba by the international community, will end up in pockets of individuals.

“Any funds given to this government now will only go towards the entrenchment of the unjust and wasteful system,” it said.

“The only people who deserve financial assistance are the suffering people of South Sudan who now reside in the villages, and in the IDP and the refugee camps,” it added.

The statement further said the agreement should be renegotiated so as to allow other parties have a say in it so that the root causes of the conflict are addressed.

“The flawed R-ARCSS needs to be re-opened to put the people first, address the root causes of conflict and re-make R-ARCSS for power sharing between the peoples of Equatoria, Upper Nile and Bahr al Ghazal,” it further said.
