April 23, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan information minister and government spokesman Michael Makuei has said that IGAD had no role to decide on the allocation of state governors.

The comments by the senior government official comes hours after the regional body, IGAD, said it has given the parties until early next month to complete the process.

“The IGAD yes mediated the revitalized peace agreement but it has role to decide how we do the allocation [of states],” Makuei said.

“The process is only for us because now we have formed the government and all the pending issues will be resolved by the parties,” Makuei added.

South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement are negotiating the allocation of state governors.

The peace deal says responsibility sharing at state and county levels shall be 55% for President Salva Kiir’s side, SPLM-IO 27%, SSOA 10% and OPP 8%.

The government wants to take six (6) governors out of the ten governors and leave four to the four parties included in revitalized government.
