January 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parties to the Joint Defense Board (JDB) have agreed to establish a join training centre in Central Equatoria’s Yei River state to train first unified brigade of the Joint Integrated Unit (JIU).

The Joint Defense Board (JDB) is meeting in the capital Juba for the fourth round to discuss the implementation of the security arrangement signed in September in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said the parties to the joint defense Board have agreed to establish a joint training centre in Morotto, Rei River state.

“We will train a join force of 2600 which will be divided 50/50 between the opposition and the government. 1300 will be from the opposition and the remaining 1300 will be from the government,” Lul said.

“The opposition will assemble and make screening in Kindilla and then will report to Morotto Joint Training Centre. We (government forces) will screen in our current positions then report to the Morotto Unified Training Centre,” he added.

Under regional and international pressure, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr.  Riek Machar Teny signed a peace deal in September in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the war.

The agreement in Addis Ababa followed months of intense negotiations among delegates of the government and opposition who must, by the time, sign a pact or face international or further regional isolation.
