August 17th 2018 (Nyamilepedia)  — South Sudan government delegation at the talks in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, apologized to the SPLM-IO for threatening to send Machar back to exile if he insists on maintaining his powers set forth in the ARCISS.

South Sudan Ambassador to Sudan,  Mayen Dut, threatened the SPLM-IO delegates to the committee tasked to handle the issue on the powers of the President and the First Vice President that if they insist on maintaining the powers Machar claim in the ARCISS, the government will send back Machar to detention in South Africa.

The move caused uproar among the SPLM-IO leadership and the supporters and led to the withdrawal of the group from the concerned committee which is tasked to work on the powers of the President and the First Vice President.

The SPLM-IO Chairman of National Committee for External Relations Stephen Par Kuol said the issued has been resolved after the government delegation apologizes.

“it has been resolved. Micheal Makuei apologised on behalf of his government and I accepted that on behalf the SPLM(IO). Dr. Ismail Waise also apologised on behalf of IGAD and we resumed the deliberations on those articles,” he said on Friday.

He said he submitted the SPLM-IO position on the powers of the President and the First Vice President that the powers remain as stipulated in the ARCISS.

“I went back yesterday afternoon and submitted the SPLM (1O) position to register that the functions or powers of the First Vice President must precisely come as stated in ARCISS without even a coma or any other punctuation mark” he said.
