January 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice-President Taban Deng Gai said on Tuesday that he is optimistic that there will be peace in 2019 more than the previous years.
Deng was speaking to a Church congregation in the Norther Upper Nile State capital Renk on the January 1st marking the new year.
“This year is a year of peace. If you noticed, there was peace last year [2018] more than 2017. In 2017, there was peace more than 2016 …… this year, I am sure there will be peace more than the previous years,” Deng told the congregation of the Sudanese Internal Church in Renk on Tuesday.
The first Vice President however told the congregation that there will be peace as per the hard work and dedication to this cause by the people of South Sudan and their support to the government.
“There will be more peace because of your work, your prayers your support to the President of the Republic and your support to the government of the Republic of South Sudan,” he said.
“One hand can not clap itself. If you don’t support the President, Salva Kiir will not be able to work alone. Your work is much needed because his [Kiir] work is to give directives, do this and do that and he make a follow up, ” he added.
Under regional and international pressure, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar signed in September 2018 a revitalized version of a 2015 peace deal to end the ongoing civil war in the country.
