According to eyewitnesses, Governor Adil’s convoy was carrying Central Equatoria officials and senior protocol officers who were traveling from Juba to Yei town when they felt in an ambush, 55 miles away from the capital.

Speaking to local media houses, Yei River County police commissioner, Maj. Gen. Yoasa Lwjang Kamba, confirmed that Governor Adil was not in the convoy as he flew from Juba to Yei by air.

According to Maj. Gen. Yoassa, the deceased included two SSPDF soldiers and two police offices.

“Indeed, a convoy of the state governor coming on land from Juba to Yei, when it reached a place called Gabada 55 miles it fell into an ambush and four soldiers were killed namely; Sergeant Major Emmanuel Ade from the police, Sergeant Major Emmanuel Taban Francis from the SSPDF and Corporal Bona Dau from the SSPDF and another police officer and that is what happened to the convoy of the governor of Central Equatoria State,” Lwjang explained.

Gen. Yoassa Lwjang further reiterated that they suspect rebels of the National Salvation Front (NAS) forces to be responsible for such atrocities.

“A civilian cannot attack the convoy of the governor where 12 vehicles were traveling on the road. We know that it is the National Salvation Front rebels who attacked the convoy and these are war crimes and crimes against humanity being committed by NAS,” he stated.
