October 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The United Kingdom said it wants the South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement to come together and settle the dispute on the number and borders of states.

President Kiir said last month that he will form the unity government in November as agreed in May if the SPLM-IO, a key partner in the revitalized peace agreement, do not cooperate in the matter.

Mean while the main armed opposition group led by Dr. Riek Machar wants the action postponed because – they said – the number of states need be settled and the parties create a new unified army then form the unity government.

British ambassador to South Sudan Christopher Trot said on Monday that they expect the South Sudan parties to come together and sit down to settle the dispute so that they can form the unity government.

We are still waiting for a discussion to take place around the number of states [in South Sudan] during the transitional period,” Trott said.

While we recognized absolutely a significant amount of progress has been achieved since the signing of the agreement… we have still not yet seen the creation of a national unified army, even a small number of troops.

We can then put the economy on a more solid footing, we can ensure people start to see accountability and justice.

We would expect the parties through a dialogue to come to an agreement amongst themselves into how much of what was anticipated in the peace agreement is actually delivered on in advance of November 12, and what could be perhaps left to be completed beyond the 12th of November when we have our new transitional government in place.”
