Jan 17, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- The Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC),  President Festus Mogae, the former president of Botswana appoints his deputy.

In a press statement, the chairman announced François Lounceny Fall, the Former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guinea, as his deputy.

“Mr. Fall is a distinguished public servant who has ably served his country and the United Nations. I welcome his commitment to serve the people of South Sudan in this important role,” Mogae said in a press statement.

According to President Mogae, Prime Minister Fall will begin his duty as JMEC deputy chairperson on Monday, January 18, 2016.

The Guinean’s diplomat and politician briefly served his nation as a Prime Minister from February 23, 2004 to April 30, 2004, under President Lansana Conté.

Mr. Fall also served Guinea, under President Alpha Condé, as the Secretary-General of the Presidency from December 2010 to October 2012 and the country’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from October 2012 to January 2016.

Contrary to this appointment, Kenyan’s Citizen online News magazine announced on Friday, Jan 15, 2016, that president Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Amb. Lt. Gen. Augostino S.K. Njoroge (Rtd) as Vice Chairperson to the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) on the implementation of the South Sudanese Peace Agreement.

According to Citizen News, “Amb. Lt. Gen. Njoroge will be the Vice Chairperson to former President of Botswana, His Excellency Festus Mogae, the JMEC Chairperson.”

The Kenyan news further reiterates that “the Republic of Kenya was requested by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to fill the post of the Vice Chair of JMEC.”, a report Nyamilepedia Press could not verify.

President Festus Mogae began his duties in South Sudan as JMEC Chairman in November 2015 and within the last two months, the former President of Botswana has moved the process at the speed of light, convening high level meetings in South Sudan capital as well as at the states level.

Unlike South Sudan President and politicians, President Mogae has visited IDPs camps and held meetings with community leaders, women leaders, youth representatives, local state governments, religious leaders and representatives of UNMISS in war ragged cities of Greater Upper Nile States.

After visiting the capitals of the most affected states of Jonglei, Upper Nile and Unity State, President Mogae traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for high level meeting with the leaders of IGAD-Plus countries.

On the latest, South Sudan’s peace process is at the verge of collapse as President Salva Kiir insists on a unilateral creation of more states that alienates lands and resources from minority tribes to Salva Kiir’s own tribe, a decision that has been wildly protested by politicians and minority tribes across the country.
